Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race start line, 2019

Although 2021 got off on some unsure footing, things are starting to look promising in the realm of cycling events. Little by little, races and rides are emerging from the shadows like woodchucks in Spring. Nothing is ever certain, but we are enjoying the stretch of optimism.

One recent bit of event news comes to us from the Bike Up the Mountain Point Series (BUMPS), a collection of events in the northeastern US that features hill climbs galore. Many famous climbs are included in the series, such as the Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb, a world-renowned event.

The news recently posted on BUMPS’ Facebook page reads:

Pent-up demand indicates we’ve got an exciting BUMPS season in store: Crank the Kanc, MWARBH Early Bird, and MWARBH are all sold-out! (There are waiting lists available if you missed-out.)

A synopsis of likely and confirmed events follows, which notably includes Whiteface Mountain, Crank the Kanc, Mt. Ascutney, Mt. Greylock and others.

Anyone who has ridden in the Northeast long enough knows that either you tackle the climbs, or they tackle you. We are excited about this promising news for hill climbing in our region!
